November 2008 - Since the redesign of GreekRank.com, the website has achieved almost instant popularity at several colleges and universities across the United States,reaching a total of 55,000 ratings and posts in only 3 months.
While the site has now reached 55,000 total ratings and posts, almost 20,000 have been removed due to spam and to try to keep a clean environment in the site’s online community. This large removal is mainly due to the fact that the goal of GreekRank is not to provide a forum for juicy and hurtful college gossip, but instead to be a useful and somewhat entertaining tool in fraternity and sorority selection and evaluation. Using the site's report content feature, names of people and particularly hateful material can be removed from GreekRank. Still, while none have been filed due to freedom of speech laws, the site seems to be a target for lawsuit threats.
Although initially the popularity of the site seemed to be concentrated around Florida State University, Purdue University, and the University of Central Florida, recently several other schools such as the University of Alabama, University of Texas, Ohio State University, and Miami University of Ohio have been finding the site just as useful and entertaining. With the constant daily increase in traffic, the site should continue to gain popularity at all of the over 100 schools it features.
